Art by Oklahoma Abstract Contemporary Equine Artist Jonelle T. McCoy "Wistful"

© "Wistful"
Some time ago before I really had started to develop my signature line style, I painted some portraits in a more realistic style. This beautiful gray paso fino mare- Nieve- owned by my friend Paula N. and who's picture this was painted from, was the winning photo in one of my P2P contests on FB (photo to painting). This acrylic was painted on a Frederick's watercolor canvas, they have such a smooth, smooth fine surface to work on. The paint just glided on. The soft colors and far off look in her eyes focused on something of mild interest in the distance gave me a sense of quiet reflection, and I named her "Wistful". Sold.

  1. Very nice portrait style. It's reassuring in some twisted way (!) to know that an artist who is successful in the abstract also had a solid base in the realistic. Although it would be very hard to create a signature style abstract without the strong compositional/draftsmanship/color theory base, most casual observers don't realize that.
