 24 x 30  Oil on Canvas.

Available Paintings by Laurie Pace

This is a painting completed last year. It is indeed available on my website with close up shots, and if you love it and want to make an offer, please email me. It is in my top ten favorite list for the past two years.  I have the photos I took as I worked on this baby and was looking at them yesterday and thought... how did I do it?  It is the Holy Spirit working for sure through my hands.  I often feel I am on a journey without knowing the destination. Having to just sit back and not try to control is always the hardest thing for me.

There Is Hope for All Horse Artists -Karen Baker Thumm

Yesterday I was revising some pages on my website and added these two images to an information page about how to become an equine artist. It occurs to me that they might help any aspiring equine artist out there to keep at it.
"Beach Run" large oil on canvas board

"Almost Home, Hunter Pace" 18x24 oil painting on canvas, Sold

The first image is one I did 30 years ago while still in art school. I think it was partially influenced by my painting professor. I cringe every time I look at it. It is crude to say the least. But, I've come a long way since.

The second I completed about  2005 and has been sold. Big difference, right?

I created two pages on my website to help aspiring equine artists. They're not how to draw horses pages but cover all the other information one needs to progress and succeed as an artist. Take a look if you care to.

Learning To Draw Horses

The Professional Horse Artist

And please feel free to check out the rest of my website

Horse 45 Northern Exposure Horse Paintings by Texas Artist Laurie Pace

Northern Exposure
Size: 8 x 10 inches     Oil on Canvas.

Available Paintings by Laurie Pace

Color and contrast are the backbone of this fast moving pair or horses... to me they looked like they were flying across snow with a brilliant morning sun. Thoughts went to Alaska for some reason, hence the name Northern Exposure. Make sure you visit my available paintings and look at the close ups on this baby. The paint is really piled high in layers.

Sometimes life is that way too! The tree we planted a few weeks ago has shed most of it's leaves. The arborist says watch and maybe new ones will sprout but I am dubious on this one. This tree looks pretty done.

I imagine God spend time watching to see if we 'sprout' new leaves after our trials and temptations, or if we basically give up.

However, the Most High does not live in houses made by human hands. As the prophet says:   “‘Heaven is my throne, and the earth is my footstool.  What kind of house will you build for me? says the Lord.
Or where will my resting place be?  Has not my hand made all these things?’ Acts 7:48-50

Horse 44 Three Mares in the Pink of Things

Yeah there is 'girl' talk going on here. I debated only a few seconds on this one because I absolutely fell in love with the structure of the horses as they appeared to the paint. The motion of palette knife strokes and blends. The painting is different. The Painting is NOT the same. This piece is for a 'strong of heart' person.

Therefore, in the present case I advise you: Leave these men alone! Let them go! For if their purpose or activity is of human origin, it will fail.  But if it is from God, you will not be able to stop these men; you will only find yourselves fighting against God. Acts 5: 38-39

Horse 43 After the Storm

8 x 10 inches Oil on Canvas.
Available Paintings by Laurie Pace

Back in the studio after the Memorial Day Weekend. Terry has been helping me move things around so I can work better and enjoy the space. We hauled a lot of art things I was not using out and several cabinets.

The result this morning was me going in and working on several small pieces for this week. I had a request for a small painting in the same strong colors of Rocky Mountain Sunrise from last week. This is it. My tiny reflective version of the piece. I hope you enjoy this small horse painting as much as I did painting it, with a smile on my face.

However, I consider my life worth nothing to me; my only aim is to finish the race and complete the task the Lord Jesus has given me—the task of testifying to the good news of God’s grace. Acts 20:24

Horse Painting 42
Herd of Painted Ponies
9 x 12 inches Oil on Canvas.

YUM... that is what I felt looking at this baby!  I love working with Carmel brown, now called Brown Pink. Never have found the 'pink' in it, but I love the color. So many small horses appeared in the background of this painting that it created a full herd.

Today is our wedding anniversary. Terry and I have been married forever... or it feels that way. When you have been with someone so long that your heart beats together and you know each other's mind as well as sensing the mood or thoughts... you know each other well. That would be 49 years of knowing each other.  A long time!

Colors were fun in this painted pony.  I actually got stuck working on it with the ice green I was using. There are not many colors that work well with it but the final result was stunning in person. Not sure this photograph does it justice.

Our anniversary is this weekend coming up... still trying to decide what to do since he is all casted up and unable to do much with his right hand.  Morgan and Kelly have their anniversary this weekend as well.  I thought about dinner at the Classic Cafe in Roanoke.  We did that last year and had a wonderful time.  Cannot really travel well like Terry is right now.  More about our anniversary on Sunday... that is the special day.  My brain is in overdrive thinking of things to do to make it special.

This man has been an inspiration to me, allowing me to stop teaching full time and be an artist full time.  We dropped a full time teaching salary from our income and yes, it took about two years before I had enough coming in to make it back up.  That was back in 1998. I fell in love with him back in the fall of 1964... knew him the year before, but it took a year of knowing him to know he was the 'him' I wanted to spend my life with. We were in seventh grade.  We are still good friends with most of our 'group' from way back then and feel really blessed.

The God of peace be with you all. Romans 15:33

Some time ago before I really had started to develop my signature line style, I painted some portraits in a more realistic style. This beautiful golden palomino paso fino stallion Falcon de Vez - owned by Dr. Bill in Florida- photo taken by Mary Berg, was the winning photo in one of my P2P contests on FB (photo to painting). This acrylic was painted on a Frederick's watercolor canvas, they have such a smooth, smooth fine surface to work on. The paint just glided on. Sold to the stallion owner. My oh my how I love those golden horses.

Don't forget that the Summer of 2014 60 Series kicks off tomorrow morning! Don't miss these daily paintings, stop in and visit to see what's new each day.

Luke, start to finish

Happy to report that I got my rear in gear (actually I was sitting on my rear for several hours to get this painting done, but why be nit-picky?) and got Luke from pencil drawing to full color. This is watercolor on Aquabord™ , 5" x 7". I think I'm getting fairly good at this after two years of practice on the Aquabord™. But as usual, half way into this painting I was sure it wasn't going to work. That's when the artist just sits back and calmly says something along the lines of well, I guess this is just another rabbit I'll have to pull out of a hat. I had been laying down the preliminary colors fairly rapidly. It felt almost as if I had no control over what my hands were doing. When I realized what was happening I commanded myself to slow down, and then things started to take shape nicely. Thank goodness for self-realization, right?

You can commission your very own Aquabord™ watercolor on my website, www.allifarkas.com

Morning Has Broken

Just got word that this painting has been juried into the Michiana Annual Art Competition at the Box Factory for the Arts in St. Joseph, MI which runs June 20- Aug. 2.  It is 24 x 36 oil on canvas and is titled "Morning Has Broken".

Some time ago before I really had started to develop my signature line style, I painted some portraits in a more realistic style. This beautiful gray paso fino mare- Nieve- owned by my friend Paula N. and who's picture this was painted from, was the winning photo in one of my P2P contests on FB (photo to painting). This acrylic was painted on a Frederick's watercolor canvas, they have such a smooth, smooth fine surface to work on. The paint just glided on. The soft colors and far off look in her eyes focused on something of mild interest in the distance gave me a sense of quiet reflection, and I named her "Wistful". Sold.

High Spirits - Pencil Drawing by Karen Baker Thumm

"High Spirits", pencil sketch on paper
While going through some records yesterday, I found this little pencil sketch I did years ago of a rearing horse. The horse is about four inches tall, so it's a small drawing. I call it a sketch, but do remember it took some tracing paper and many adjustments to get it to this point. I also referred to a number of rearing horse photos to create it but didn't really copy any of them. That would be wrong.

As I get back to painting on a regular basis again, this little fellow seems to fit my mood very well.

I'm getting excited, the start of the 2014 60 Series is counting down, just 3 more days! This painting from last years 60 series was one of my surprise favorites, I just loved his exuberance and the rich warm golden colors for the palette. This expresses a happiness that I strive to feel and have been eluded from for so long, waking with the feeling that life is great and worth running around all bursting with positive energy! The older I get the harder things are, yet- I experience this more often now. As I like to say- WOOHOO! #53 is sold.

Horse 40 Adventure by Texas Artist Laurie Pace

© G.O.D. Laurie Justus Pace      Graphics One Design 2014

Horse 40 Adventure
8 x 8 inches Oil on Canvas.
Available Paintings by Laurie Pace

Every moment at the easel is an adventure. Some turn out better than others, but the best ones are the unexpected journeys where I do not try to control what is evolving on the surface.

The painting that was up yesterday came out of a scraped canvas... this small energetic piece came from some of the same colors that were left on my palette.  Hence the name 'adventure'.

May this day be an adventure for you.  Let Go and Let God.

Was watching an episode of "Calling the Midwife" on PBS several weeks ago and in one of the scenes a man said, "My Mother taught me when something knocks at the front door, you open it up and it blows in... and then you open the back door and let it blow right on out."  That sent shivers down my legs and arms.  From that day forward, every time I am consumed with a negative thought, a malady or situation that seems overbearing, I close my eyes and think, 'Open the door"... as I fill my lungs with a deep breath..."Now open the back door and let it blow straight through"...and I let the deep breath blow emptying my lungs.  With it goes the situation.  I would lie if I said it works every time... because sometimes I seem to run back to 'the front door" to let it blow back in again.

God is not unjust; he will not forget your work and the love you have shown him as you have helped his people and continue to help them. Hebrews 6:10

Short short fast posting.   Terry had wrist surgery on Friday and I am doing the wife/nurse thing for the next two weeks. I will try and post on and off as I can and I hope to keep painting.

This painting was finished on Thursday. Personally I love it.  The strength and majesty of the stance of the horses and the colors just pull me straight into it.  I am debating on submitting this for a museum show in El Paso later this summer. Let me know your thoughts.
