Thomas Allen Pauly: The Fine Art of Racing
Thomas Allen PaulyWe are very excited to announce the next featured artist at ThePoisonCup! The work of award winning equine artist Thomas Allen Pauly is now on exhibit and will be up through the end of the year. An opening and tasting is scheduled for December 6th from 5-8pm. Enjoy a tasting of fine wines and meet the artist behind these incredible works.

From his website at HorseArtist.com: "Since 1978, award-winning equine artist Thomas Allen Pauly has portrayed some of the finest horses and jockeys in the country. Born and raised in Chicago, his love of the sport emerged in the Sportsman's Park's winner circle when his friend's horse named Rusty Win captured the feature race by five lengths. He was hooked.

"Pauly now travels extensively throughout the world to photograph his subjects in their natural settings. It has rewarded him with priceless reference material to produce paintings from the Royal Ascot, the Hong Kong Cup, the Arc de Triomphe, the Dubai World Cup, the Velka Pardubicka Ceske Pojistovny Steeplechase in Prague and numerous Breeders' Cups, Preaknesses, Belmonts and Kentucky Derbies."

The New War Pony, Juried into the ‘Sun Bowl Exhibit 2013’ International Museum of Art, El Paso, Texas

The New War Pony pro photo Medium Web view

"The New War Pony" Watercolor, has been juried into the 'Sun Bowl Exhibit 2013' hosted by the International Museum of Art of El Paso, Texas. Exhibit Dates are November 8, 2013 - January 5, 2014.

This year’s judge is renowned artist Aleksander Titovets. As a painter, Aleksander gravitates to what he calls “quiet paintings”, paintings which reveal a reflective and optimistic spirit. Titovets has been a guest speaker, art teacher, and juror since coming to the United States. Although the painter now resides in El Paso, Texas; he finds his inspiration in memories of his homeland. Some of his noted credits include “Best of Show” at the International Fine Art Competition for four years in a row. Also his portrait of former First Lady Laura Bush created “The First Ladies Gallery” in the Smithsonian National Portrait Gallery in Washington, D.C.

~International Museum of Art of El Paso

Limited Edition and Open Edition Giclee Reproductions are available of this work through the Studio.

The Saddle on this Pony is a 1904 US cavalry enlisted man's saddle. To a warrior it would be a prized war trophy taken from the enemy and displayed as such, either if he was just on horse parade or he might even use it in battle.

If you saw a chief/warrior dressed in this manner - with full head Bonnet and the leather clothing, chances are he would not be going into battle, but rather on parade displaying all his trophies, as well as his honored war pony before everyone.

This full dress Nez Perce outfit was created and sewn by Debbie Herzman of the Calizona Appaloosa Horse Club. She provided the info, as well as photographs of the outfits and horses, for Deborah to create a work of art from. The Calizona Appaloosa Horse Club often showcases the outfits while riding their Appaloosa Horses, in the Rose Parade, in California and other functions.

The background landscape was derived from Deborah Flood’s own photographs and experiences in several Western States.

Hi All,
This is my first contribution to this blog. I'm posting my most recent commissioned painting that I just shipped to a client in Kentucky. The original measures a whopping 36x65 inches. I love to paint horses and all kinds of wildlife and as you can see, I don't paint in realistic colors. I use these bright colors as a way to express the animals aura, spirit or essence depending on your view. I grew up with 2 horses and can honestly say I was horse obsessed! My Uncle Marv, who was an artist himself even told me at one point that I might want to learn to draw other things! It is a joy for me to create these works of art for others. "Tribute To Glory" Oil Painting by Karen Baker Thumm

"Tribute To Glory" oil painting on canvas

After a long hiatus from the studio due to various health issues, I'm finally finding time and energy to get back to painting. Since Glory is the closest work in progress to being finished, she is the first up on the easel.

When last I left off working on her, I had corrected some drawing errors and had begun the second color layer. It's hard to tell where the second layer ends on her head and what is still the first layer. I briefly toyed with leaving it that way, but there are still too many unresolved areas yet to make that final decision.

So far I'm very pleased with how this painting is looking and am anxious to finish it. Glory was my horse's best friend when I first bought him. She was a broodmare who died during foaling years later. I was fond of her too which is why I felt she deserved to be immortalized.

"BeCome a Survivor"

October is breast cancer awareness month, and it just so happens I was commissioned to do a work for this very issue to signify a feeling of hope and determination to beat this medical condition. Titled "BeCome a Survivor" employing my typical use of words and letters to send a message, in this case the capital B and C in BeCome means Breast Cancer. Done with acrylics on an 8"x8"x1.5" gallery wrap canvas. There is a total of 8 ribbons on this painting, 2 are on the sides which are not seen by the camera. Eight is a # of fate, karma, adversity, and those with perseverance can overcome it's influence and succeed! I wish all the best and complete healing to the owner of this painting and anyone dealing with breast cancer.

"Golden Days of Summer" accepted to An Equine Jubilee, Celebrating the Horse in Art!

by Elizabeth Zimmerman | www.ElizabethZimmerman.com

It was bout this time last year when I heard about An Equine Jubilee, Celebrating the Horse in Art (Show) and I saw all the horse artists I admired had piece(s) accepted, and I thought to myself - next year I will do it! And I entered three of what I thought were my best paintings: "Begging for More (Rein)," "Girlfriend Time," and "Golden Days of Summer."

About a week later I heard back and "Golden Days of Summer" was accepted into the show!!!

Show digital postcard:

So, the other night after I went to TAP Plastics to get some non-glare plexi, picked up nice double mat boards, I assembled my piece, wrapped it up in (what seemed like 50 yards) of bubble wrap and I sent it in the mail to The Arts Castle in Delaware, Ohio. So if you're in the neighborhood when the show is on (about 2 months duration!), then swing by and look at all the art. There are 41 artists represented with a grand total of 77 pieces.

And I have limited edition giclée fine art prints available of "Golden Days of Summer" on my Etsy Shop. In real life the prints look identical to the original, every detail - even down to the paper textured just like the watercolor paper I use!
